With so much to do around town this weekend, many of which are free, it’s no wonder that San Diego is a top destination for Memorial Day weekend.
Here are some of the top events for this weekend.
Ethnic Food Fair
With its diverse mix of immigrants, San Diego is a foodie paradise. Experience all the ethnic food that our city has to offer at the 35th Annual Ethnic Food Fair at Balboa Park.
Experience the culinary treats and performances of the 33 cultures represented in the Balboa Park international cottages.
Hosted by the House of Pacific Relations, the free fair goes from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
San Diego Surf Film Festival
While San Diego may not be the birth place of surfing, but we do have a statue dedicated to the art of surfing. So, it makes sense that San Diego would be the place to host a film festival about surfing. (Note to visitors, only the locals are allowed to make fun of the Cardiff Kook).
The San Diego Surf Film Festival champions independent filmmakers in their quest to capture and convey the special feelings of being a surfer. The festival presents some of the finest independent surf films from around the world.
The festival is showing films at various locations throughout the weekend. Tickets range from $5 to $100.
San Diego Jazz Festival
The San Diego Jazz Festival is a must-attend event for fans of R&B and smooth jazz music fans. America’s Finest City has had a long tradition with smooth jazz.
This weekend, the festival brings together some of the best R&B and jazz acts into town, including R. Kelly, Toni Braxton, Maxwell and Erykah Badu.
The festival goes throughout the weekend at the Omnia La Costa Resort & Spa. Tickets start at $65.
Valley Center Western Days and Stampede Rodeo
Missed last weekend’s rodeo in Ramona? Here’s another chance to relive San Diego’s Western past.
Each May, the Valley Center community celebrates its western heritage with a series of events including the Western Days Parade, the Valley Center Stampede Rodeo, an evening musical performance and carnival.
The event is all weekend long. The parade is free to attend, but tickets for the rodeo range from $15 to $40.
