The onset of an unseasonable heat wave in the San Diego area Friday set at least one temperature record.

As of early afternoon, the mercury had climbed to 89 degrees at Lindbergh Field, beating the prior maximum mark of 87, set on this date in 1994, the National Weather Service reported.

On Saturday and Sunday, increasing high pressure will bring even warmer conditions, with thermometer readings reaching the 90s inland, forecasters said.

The weather service advised those planning outdoor activities this weekend to take care to avoid heat-related ailments.
