At least one person was killed Sunday night when a vehicle went off a road east of El Cajon, landed in a backyard and caught fire.
The accident was reported at 8:41 p.m. on La Cresta Boulevard at Mountain View Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
An officer at the scene described the vehicle as a small compact that was half its original size due to the damage.
The roadway was closed to accommodate emergency equipment and the investigation, the CHP said.
