A garbage container fire spread to scaffolding of a construction site and came close to catching a Mission Valley hotel’s high rise on fire, according to authorities.
The fire started in a large, construction-sized dumpster at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center on Hotel Circle North shortly before 11 a.m. on Sunday, San Diego Fire Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson said.
Firefighters who were first on scene immediately called for a second alarm response, worried that the fire would spread to the hotel’s tower and its guest rooms, Swanson said.
But that second alarm was cancelled when the first firefighters put the fire out in about 20 minutes. No injuries were reported and the cause was under investigation, Swanson said.
