A shooting in San Marcos early Thursday left a 20-year- old woman hospitalized and her alleged assailant behind bars.
San Diego resident Rufus Runnells, 21, pulled a gun during an argument with a second attendee of a small party at a residence in the 600 block of Helmsdale Road near Aberdeen Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m., sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Deese said.
A struggle ensured and Runnels allegedly fired a shot that struck a 20- year-old San Diego woman in the leg. Deese said her wound was not believed to be life-threatening.
Runnels initially fled, but returned to the home and was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and other weapons violations, sheriff’s officials said.
