A man carrying a skateboard was struck and killed Friday by a hit-and-run driver in the Mid City area.

The incident occurred at 8:19 p.m. Friday in the 3600 block of 54th Street, San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims said.

The victim was crossing the street and ended up lying in its No. 2 lane for unknown reasons, Heims said.

Two northbound vehicles saw the victim. The first successfully swerved to avoid him, but the second did not, running him over, Heims said.

The second vehicle did not stop. There was no information about the suspect vehicle, and the victim remained unidentified, Heims said.
