Friends and family were mourning Tuesday a 79-year- old Orange County man found dead in a car in the remote Warner Springs area two weeks after he and his wife went missing following a trip to the Valley View Casino.

Dianna Bedwell, 68, and the body of Cecil Arthur Knutson were spotted on the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation Sunday afternoon, according to sheriff’s Lt. Kenneth Nelson. They were reported missing after failing to arrive at their son’s home in La Quinta after leaving the Valley View Casino in Valley Center on Mother’s Day.

Nelson said Knutson and Bedwell, Fullerton residents, got lost while attempting to find a shortcut. They lived off a pie and oranges they had brought with them and rainwater they collected.

Bedwell was taken to a hospital in serious condition, Nelson said.

Nelson said the county Medical Examiner’s Office would determine how Knutson died, but foul play was not suspected.
