Heartland Fire & Rescue crews early Saturday battled a two-alarm fire at a vacant commercial building close to Interstate 8 in El Cajon.

The fire at 581 South Marshall Avenue was reported at 1:22 a.m. When crews arrived, they found heavy heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of a commercial building.

Some 30 firefighters from El Cajon and La Mesa, with assistance from CAL FIRE and San Diego Fire-Rescue, had the fire out in about one hour and 20 minutes.

There are no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
