A fire at a recycling yard near Brown Field destroyed a backhoe and some adjacent rubbish Friday, but no one was hurt, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
SDFRD Capt. Joe Amador said the fire was reported around 2:45 p.m. at Heritage Road and Otay Valley Road.
A mechanical problem with the backhoe sparked the blaze, which generated a large amount of smoke that could be seen through the area, according to the SDFRD.
