The three-day San Diego Jazz Festival opens in Carlsbad on Friday, kicking off a big holiday weekend of music in the San Diego region that will be capped off by The Rolling Stones.
Chicago-based rhythm and blues superstar and Grammy winner R. Kelly will be the opening night headliner at the festival, which begins at 5 p.m. at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. The first night also features Daley and Ten29.
Singer-songwriter Toni Braxton is the headliner Saturday, and Erykah Badu will close out the festival Sunday night.
Single-day tickets start at $65.
Also around town, the rock band Paramore will take the stage at San Diego State on Friday night. Saturday, country music legend Wynonna Judd will perform at the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum to benefit local veterans and military families, and the group Train will take the stage at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista.
The Rolling Stones will launch their latest tour at Petco Park on Sunday night.
