The Scripps Institution of Oceanography said Wednesday the sea-surface temperature at the end Scripps Pier in La Jolla set another record — the third this month.

The latest record is 79.2 degrees. It follows 78.8 degrees on Aug. 3 and 78.6 of Aug 1.
All three are the highest temperatures recorded at the pier in over a century of continuous measurement.
The warm ocean surface is leading to higher-than-normal humidity in the San Diego region.
Scripps researchers said that the record warmth is consistent with similar records for high temperatures set on land as well as the extreme weather in 2018.
On Tuesday, the high temperature in San Diego was a record 91 degrees amid the current heat wave.
