Former San Diego State track and field standout Shanieka Ricketts won the silver medal in the triple jump in Doha, Qatar Saturday.
In representing Jamaica at the 2019 Track and Field World Championships, Ricketts cleared 14.92 meters on her third jump.
That was just 0.01 meters off her previous career best, set in Zurich a month ago. She won the Diamond League Championship with the jump.
Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas won the gold in Doha with a mark of 15.37 meters.
Ricketts finished 11th in the event at the 2015 World Championships and 14th at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Ricketts, who competed for the Aztecs from 2011-14, will be inducted into the Aztec Hall of Fame Friday.
Former Aztec All-American Shanieka Ricketts (Thomas) won the silver medal in the triple jump at the Track & Field World Championships! A huge accomplishment for Shanieka six days before she is inducted into the Aztec Hall of Fame.
