San Diego State alum Shanieka Thomas Ricketts emerged as the triple-jump champion at a track-and-field meet in Zurich last week.

Ricketts, 27, posted a personal-best jump of 14.93 meters at the International Association of Athletics Federations Diamond League event.

With the win, she earned a wild-card entry to the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. They begin Sept. 27.

The reigning Jamaican national champion in the triple jump placed eighth at the World Championships in London two years ago. She also competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Ricketts – as Shanieka Thomas – was on SDSU’s track team from 2011-14. She won the triple jump in the NCAA championships in 2013-14.

She’s ranked fourth worldwide in the triple jump and has climbed as high as second.

San Diego State recently included her in its next Hall of Fame class. She will be inducted in October and honored at halftime of the Oct. 12 SDSU football game.
