Six former San Diego State University track and field athletes are competing at the US Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, which continue through Sunday.
Competition began Thursday. The former Aztecs include:
- Whitney Ashley (2012), discus
- Allison (Reaser) Halverson (2014), heptathlon
- Kristen Brown (2015), Kortney Ross (2015), Bonnie Draxler (2019), pole vault
- Ashley Henderson (2018), 100m & 200m
Henderson ran in a 100-meter semi-final heat Friday, but missed the finals, won by Teahna Daniels in 11.20.
She also will compete in the 200 meter dash, which begins at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The semifinals (3:10 p.m.) and finals (5:40 p.m.) take place Sunday.
She entered the weekend ranked fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.96. She is ninth in the 200.
Ashley, a 2016 Olympian and SDSU Hall of Famer, ranks second (63.64m) in the discus and will compete Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
Halverson will compete in the heptathlon Saturday and pole vaulters Brown, Ross and Draxler compete Sunday at 3:10 p.m.
The three enter the competition ranked in the top 12, Ross at No. 7 (4.63m), while Brown and Draxler tied for 12th (4.56m). Draxler took a silver medal at the NCAA championships in June.
NBC Sports Gold will air part of the competition, along with NBC Sports Network.
