Torrey Pines High’s John Lynch a Finalist Again for Football Hall of Fame
Lynch was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection as a safety. He was chosen in the third round of the 1993 draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the 82nd overall selection.
Lynch played for the Buccaneers from 1993-2003 and the Denver Broncos from 2004-07. He is now the San Francisco 49ers general manager.
This is the fifth consecutive year Lynch has been chosen as a finalist. He is in his sixth year of eligibility. Modern era players must have last played more than five seasons ago to be eligible.
The modern era finalists were determined by a vote of the hall’s selection committee from among 27 semifinalists.
The 48-person selection committee will meet Feb. 3 in Minneapolis to determine the hall’s Class of 2018. A maximum of five modern era finalists can be elected under the hall’s rules.
The committee will also decide whether to elect either of the two previously announced senior finalists, players whose careers ended more than 25 years ago, former Green Bay Packers guard Jerry Kramer and former Houston Oilers linebacker Robert Brazile, or the previously announced contributor finalist, Bobby Beathard, the San Diego Chargers general manager from 1990-99.
