“It’s something you think about, but you never really think it’s going to happen,” Margot said after the game. “I was able to execute. It was great.”

The 7-6 victory came before a sold-out crowd of 43,000 fans at Petco Park in downtown San Diego.

Four F-35 jets, the newest aircraft in the military fleet, flew over Petco Park following a rousing rendition of the National Anthem by Stephany Negrete.

The Padres are 9-5 in Peto Park home openers over the past 14 years.
