San Diego Padres outfielder Wil Myers is heading to the disabled list with left wrist tendinitis, the team announced Monday afternoon.

In a corresponding move, the team called up right-hander Cory Mazzoni to work out of the bullpen.

Myers was out from May 11 to June 11, battling an injury to that same left wrist. In his brief return he went 2-14 with five strikeouts and no extra base hits.

Two of the games he started at first base and the other in center field. His absence means Yonder Alonso will most likely resume everyday activities at first base, even though the team tried him out at third base in the weekend series with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Will Venable and Melvin Upton Jr. will most likely split duties out in center field while Myers is out.

The 24-year-old Myers was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in the offseason in a three-team trade that also involved the Washington Nationals.

In his first year with the Friars, Myers is batting .277 with five homers, 19 RBI and 30 runs.
