The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is making changes to it’s new turf track after four horses were hurt and had to the euthanized.
“Del Mar is deeply saddened by the loss of thoroughbred lives we have experienced at the track since the start of our season. Four of those losses have come on our new turf course. Despite that, we continue to have the utmost confidence in the course,” the club said in a statement.
Starting Sunday, track crews aerated and watered the turf course, and over a three-day period will reposition the inner rail at 18 feet.
The club has two tracks, an inner turf course and an outer main track, which has a synthetic surface.
Racing is scheduled to resume on Wednesday.
