Rep. Sara Jacobs, who represents central San Diego County, will take part in a bi-partisan congressional trip to the Ukraine amid the growing threat of a Russian invasion.
Jacobs will participate in a delegation organized by New York Rep. Gregory Meeks, chairman of House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The bipartisan delegation will also meet with NATO allies and European Union counterparts in Belgium and then Ukrainian officials in Kyiv.
The trip comes as the Defense Department put 8,500 American troops on heightened alert to deploy to the region and an aircraft carrier battle group entered the Mediterranean Sea.
“I condemn Russia’s destabilizing actions in Ukraine and intend to push for continued diplomatic efforts to de-escalate this crisis, because an escalation into armed conflict would be disastrous for everyone involved, particularly the Ukrainian people,” said Jacobs.
Jacobs, who represents the 53rd District, is a member of both the Foreign Affairs and Armed Services committees.
