A 28-year-old San Diego man was appointed Thursday by Gov. Jerry Brown as senior business development specialist in the Office of Business and Economic Development.
Shea Benton will represent San Diego and Imperial counties in that capacity. He’ll be paid $90,000 a year, and the position does not require Senate confirmation.
Benton had served as economic development manager at the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation since 2015. Previously, he was a field representative from 2013 to 2015 in the office of Rep. Scott Peters, D- San Diego, and a district representative from 2011 to 2012 in the office of Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego.
Benton’s LinkedIn page shows he’s a San Diego State University graduate and also worked on Fletcher’s unsuccessful mayoral campaign in 2011 and 2012.
Benton is not registered with a political party and says on his Twitter profile that he’s a “staunch moderate.”
