A San Diego chapter of the United Nations Association will send a delegation to New York next week to participate in the Ocean Conference at the U.N. headquarters, officials announced Saturday.

“Just days after U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, participation in these solutions-focused, cross-sectoral partnership dialogues will underline our chapter’s commitment to actions on climate change,” the statement said.

The week-long conference will focus on ways to conserve and use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development coinciding with World Oceans Day.

“Our delegation is comprised of community members … who look forward [to] learning more about international efforts and contributing to the discussions to reverse the decline in the health of our ocean for people, planet and prosperity,” the statement said.
