Delegates voting at the party’s state convention in San Jose picked Harris with 78.1 percent of the vote.

Harris received 1,671 votes, Rep. Loretta Sanchez of Garden Grove 413, and 55 delegates voted for no endorsement, according to figures released by the California Democratic Party.

A vote of 60 percent plus one vote was needed for an endorsement.

Harris was the first statewide candidate in a competitive primary to win the party’s endorsement since 2010.

“I’m incredibly honored to have the endorsement of the California Democratic Party in the U.S. Senate race, and I’m so proud of the support our campaign has received from every corner of our state,” said Harris. “We know there is more that unites us than divides us, and I’m grateful to the Californians who joined together to send that message this weekend.”
