Kathlyn Mead, 57, and Richard Valdez, 52, were named as representatives of the 22nd District Agricultural Association, San Diego County Fair Board of Directors.

The commission enters into leases and similar agreements for use of the Del Mar Racetrack.

Mead, of Escondido, was most recently executive vice president and chief operations officer of the California Endowment, and previously held leadership positions with the Council of Community Clinics, Blue Shield of California and Sharp Health Plan.

Valdez, of Chula Vista, is an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law and a partner and associate at Sandler, Lasry, Laube, Byer and Valdez LLP.

Both appointees are Democrats. The positions do not require Senate confirmation, and there is no compensation.

The governor appoints three members of the commission from the 22nd District Agricultural Association. Other members are the state’s director of food and agriculture, the director of finance, and director of general services.
