The general election is still more than a year away, but the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday it will support re-election of Democrat Scott Peters in the 52nd Congressional District.
“Congressman Peters has demonstrated that his priorities are in alignment with the chamber’s and he has a proven track record of working to create an environment for business to succeed. His election ensures San Diego gets the leadership it deserves to stay competitive,” said Jerry Sanders, president and CEO of the chamber.
“We seek to endorse candidates who will be strong advocates for San Diego’s business community, the creation of jobs, and who are committed to the future of our region,” Sanders added.
The chamber’s board of directors met with Peters on Thursday and then voted unanimously in support of the endorsement.
Last year Peters picked up the surprise endorsement of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which usually backs Republicans, in his race against former City Councilman Carl DeMaio.
The San Diego chamber represents more than 2,500 businesses and 300,000 jobs.
