Times of San Diego served 319,667 readers in February, an 83 percent increase over the same month last year, as the independent news website continues its growth trend.
Those readers were young, local and mobile, with a record high 52 percent under the age of 45 in February, according to Google Analytics.
The website’s young audience contrasts with the considerably older readership typical of local printed newspapers and broadcast television.
A record 62 percent of reading sessions in February were on smartphones, with 32 percent on desktops and laptops. and the remaining 6 percent on tablets. Pages on the site automatically adjust for screen size, and Times of San Diego formats content for the increasingly popular Accelerated Mobile Pages Project.
Just under 30 percent of sessions were in the city of San Diego, with 15 percent elsewhere in San Diego County and another 10 percent elsewhere in Southern California. The remainder were national and even international, especially because of Times of San Diego’s coverage of California politics and the military.
The site’s staff of six contributing editors and photographers publishes an average of 20 articles a day covering all aspects of news in San Diego County.
