Times of San Diego Read by 268,000 in May—An 18% Increase

Times of San Diego was read by 268,283 people in May, an 18 percent increase from the same month a year ago.

The most widely read topics in May were the USS Theodore Roosevelt returning from deployment, a 100-mph fatal crash in the Oak Park neighborhood and the waving of permit fees for granny flats.

Visitors to the independent local news website continued to be young, mobile and local, according to data from Google Analytics.

Readers aged 25 to 34 made up the largest single audience segment, and those aged 54 and younger accounted for 69 percent of all reading sessions. The website has a significantly younger audience than traditional print and broadcast media.

Smartphones were used for 55 percent of reading sessions, tablets for 8 percent and standard desktop and laptop computers for the remainder. The website uses responsive design to automatically adapt to any size screen.

Readers in the city of San Diego accounted for 30 percent of visits to the site, while another 15 percent came from elsewhere in San Diego County and 10 percent from elsewhere in Southern California. The remainder were national and even international.

Times of San Diego’s staff of six contributing editors and photographers publish an average of 20 articles daily about all aspects of life in San Diego and Southern California, including politics, crime, business, arts, sports, education, science and the military.
