With Christmas just days away, the Navy released a photo of a crewman dressed as Santa Claus directing jets on the flight deck of the USS Theodore Roosevelt.
Lt. Larry Young was shown signalling an F/A-18 E Super Hornet preparing to launch as the San Diego-based supercarrier patrolled in the Arabian Gulf.
The Roosevelt and its strike group of warships and Marines left San Diego on Oct. 6, participated in maneuvers off Korea, and began launching strikes against the Islamic State on Dec. 1.
Separately operating in the Arabian Gulf is a San Diego-based amphibious ready group, composed of the amphibious assault ship USS America, amphibious transport dock USS San Diego and amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor. The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, from Camp Pendleton, is embarked aboard the ships.
