Serving Seniors will host a festive Christmas meal at 1525 Fourth Ave., San Diego, for low-income and homeless San Diego seniors, who often celebrate the holidays alone on Christmas Day.

Entertainment includes the Serving Seniors’ Singers caroling favorite holiday tunes. A large, festive tree will decorate the dining room, along with centerpieces and linens on the tables. Community volunteers will be on-site to serve meals and bring cheer and joy to the seniors who may be experiencing loneliness during the holiday season.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and parking is free.

For nearly 50 years, Serving Seniors has been helping seniors struggling with poverty and hunger. The number of food insecure seniors is at critical levels in San Diego, and loneliness and isolation can have serious consequences for seniors’ physical and mental health. Since its inception in 1970, Serving Seniors has served more than 12 million meals. Every year, the organization provides nearly 600,000 meals to seniors at nine congregate dining sites across the county, delivers two meals daily to more than 500 home-bound seniors and houses nearly 400 seniors. About 5,000 San Diego seniors look to Serving Seniors annually for support.
