Father Joe’s Villages announced Thursday that it is turning its dining room into a temporary shelter for 250 homeless people.

The nonprofit will offer meals and overnight accommodation during the first cold Pacific Storm of the season.

The emergency effort is partially funded by the City of San Diego and the San Diego Housing Commission.

Individuals seeking shelter were asked to check in after 4 p.m. at 1501 Imperial Avenue and leave by 5 a.m. on Friday so that the space can be used as a dining room.
