San Diego International Beer Festival
Just in time for dad’s day this weekend, one of the largest beer festivals in California is returning to the San Diego County Fair.
Close to 200 breweries, from established breweries to up-and-comers, from around the world will be at the event to show off their suds.
You can have unlimited tastings at one of the five four-hour sessions.
The San Diego International Beer Festival goes from noon to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $60 general admission and $110 VIP, which includes 30 more minutes of tasting, access to a VIP lounge area and food station specially picked to pair with the brews from the festival. Beer festival tickets include admission to the fair.
San Diego Wood Boat Festival
It’s a Father’s Day tradition in San Diego and it’s a rare opportunity for you to see some of the most beautify and well maintained wooden boats up close.
The event features both well-preserved vintage boats as well as new vessels that have been masterfully hand-crafted. The festivities also include live music, a children’s activities zone as well as a raffle with items donated from local businesses.
The San Diego Wood Boat Festival goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Shelter Island. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children 6-12. Kids 5 and under are free.
Carne Asada Fries Fest
There’s nothing more San Diego than carne asada fries. This festival will sure to please the palate of the most discerning eater.
There will be a variety of carne asada fries from 15 different restaurants in the South Bay that you can pair with some local beers or spirits. There will also be live concert entertainment.
The Carne Asada Fries Fest goes from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at Chula Vista Marina View Park. Tickets range from $35-45 for adults and $10 for children 17 and under.
Father’s Day Concert & BBQ
The Hotel Del Coronado is hosting its annual Father’s Day Concert & BBQ with a percentage of the proceeds goes to the Gary Sinise Foundation to support veterans and military servicemembers.
The actor will also bring his Lt. Dan Band, named after Sinise’s character in “Forest Gump,” to perform covers from Bruno Mars, The Police, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen and more. The concert will open with a skydiving show.
The Father’s Day Concert & BBQ goes from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, but the venue opens starting at 11 a.m. for drinks. Tickets are $75 general admission and $35 for military servicemembers.
A summer favorite in San Diego, Nighttime Zoo at the San Diego Zoo returns this sunday.
The “rock and roar” after-dark experience includes upbeat, live music throughout the park, live entertainers such as twirling acrobats and stiltwalkers.
Zookeepers will also share stories about the animals in their care and, because most of the animals are nocturnal, there will be special animal encounters as well.
Nighttime Zoo goes from Sunday through Sept. 3. Admission is included in the ticket to the zoo.
