The National Weather Service office in San Diego is forecasting hazardous beach conditions on what is expected to be a busy beach weekend.
“A long period south swell from 200 degrees will arrive at the beaches this weekend,” the weather service said, predicting 7 foot waves north of Del Mar by Sunday.
The high surf will be more widespread on Monday and Tuesday, with sets from 5 to 8 feet, before subsiding on Wednesday.
“Increasing surf along the beaches will lead to an increasingly dangerous surf zone,” the weather service said. “Strong rip and longshore currents will develop.”
With warm weather in the forecast, local beaches are expected to be crowded this weekend during the hazardous conditions.
