The weeks-old whale calf was in guarded condition at the park’s Animal Health and Rescue Center on Tuesday evening.

SeaWorld is in consultation with the National Marine Fisheries Service as it provides care, which includes feeding a whale baby milk formula every four hours.

“This is an extremely critical period for the calf whose long-term prognosis is too early to be determined.” SeaWorld said.

Marine animal experts say it is rare for a pygmy sperm whale to beach itself off the Pacific Coast.
