Six needy families are expected to take possession of their brand-new homes in Imperial Beach Sunday afternoon, thanks to San Diego Habitat for Humanity and a group of volunteer builders.
The houses were built in the 700 block of 10th Street, according to Ellen Immergut, communication director for the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.
The families were selected based on their housing need, their willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity and their ability to repay an affordable mortgage loan.
“Habitat believes in a community — and a world — where everyone has a decent place to live,” Immergut said in a statement.
The keys to the “decent and affordable homes” were expected to be turned over to the new homeowners during a ceremony on-site involving the volunteer builders, sponsors, Habitat officials and the Mayor of Imperial Beach, Serge Dedina.
