Run away with the circus, watch a movie about San Diego or take in a street fair or two with your four-legged friend, there’s something for everyone this weekend.
America’s Finest Film Fest
We live in America’s Finest city. A study even confirmed it. This weekend, 1to1 Movement is hosting the third annual America’s Finest Film Fest to generate awareness on the beauty & diversity of the region.
The festival will be showcasing the region through the top 20 short films shot in San Diego, about San Diego or by San Diegans.
Screenings take place at 5 and 8 p.m. Saturday at Irwin Jacobs Hall, 5535 Morehouse Dr.
Summer Jazz Concert at the San Diego Botanic Garden
Summer Jazz Concert is a San Diego staple. This Sunday, spend an evening enjoying the timeless sounds of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie and more at the San Diego Botanic Garden .
Jazz standards will be performed by the Big Band with a full 17-piece orchestra and two talented vocalists. Proceeds from the event go to support music education in North County schools.
The jazz concert is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15 for Garden members and $25 for non-members.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s Circus XTREME
The circus is coming to town — literally. “The Greatest Show on Earth” is in town for seven performances at the Valley View Casio
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s Circus XTREME combines traditional elements of the circus with acts inspired by extreme sports and competitive acrobatics.
Performances are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; matinees at 11 a.m. Friday and 11 am. and 3 p.m. Saturday; and final shows at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday. Ticket prices range from $15 to $65.
Hillcrest’s annual celebration of music and street life takes over Fifth Avenue from University Avenue south to Brookes Avenue.
There will be a main stage for music along with food, rides, a beer garden (naturally) and vendor booths. You can dance with Hillcrest’s best DJs under the Hillcrest sign.
Cityfest goes from noon to 11 p.m. Sunday and is free.
Cardiff’s Dog Days of Summer
Don’t leave your pooch out of the street fair fun. Come to Cardiff’s Dog Days of Summer.
There will be contests for best kisser and best dressed and an adoption fair too, just in case there’s a friend you want to convert to a dog owner.
It’s free from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
