The March of Dimes‘ annual March for Babies fundraiser takes place Saturday, April 25, in Balboa Park.

The event raises funds for medical research to fight birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. In California, one in 11 babies are born premature and can face lifelong health problems as a result.

The march begins at 8 a.m. at the corner of Laurel St. and Balboa Drive. Check-in is at 7 a.m.

Participants can register for the walk online.

The March for Babies fundraiser is held annually in some 1,100 communities nationwide. It began in 1970 as the first charitable walking event in the United States.
