The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped Monday for the 11th consecutive day following a 35-day streak of increases, decreasing eight-tenths of a cent to $3.405.

The average price has dropped 9.6 cents over the past 11 days, including nine-tenths of a cent on Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 7.7 cents less than one week and 59.6 cents lower than one year ago, but 57.9 cents higher than one month ago.

The dropping pump prices are the result of a sharp decrease to wholesale gasoline prices, which could reduce the average pump price to below $3 per gallon, according to Jeffrey Spring, the corporate communications manager of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
