Dozens of protesters gathered outside of SeaWorld Tuesday to protest the park’s treatment of the animals in its care.
The crowd demonstrated on the corner of Sea World Drive and Sea World Way wearing black and white to symbolize Orca whales. Last year, the documentary “Blackfish” brought attention to allegations that the company mistreats its whales, who attack trainers as a result.
SeaWorld has vehemently denied these allegations and continues to emphasize its support for caring and rehabilitating marine animals.
A press release from the group organizing the protest claims that SeaWorld confines whales and dolphins in tanks the size of bathtubs.
“Sea World presents itself as a family establishment full of fun activities,” the release stated. “However, these “fun activities” harm animals physically and emotionally.”
