Cal State San Marcos received a record numbers of applications from prospective freshmen and transfer students this fall, the university reported Thursday.

Nearly 13,500 would-be freshmen applied to the school for the Fall 2015 semester, a 7.6 percent increase over last year and nearly 20 percent more than the year before, according to CSUSM.

School officials said almost 8,000 transfer students applied, up 6.6 percent over last year and 14.1 percent more than two years ago.

“As our reputation has grown, so have the number of our applications,” said CSUSM President Karen Haynes. “As we expand our reach, more and more students are choosing Cal State San Marcos as their first-choice institution.”

Acceptance letters will go out by late January.

San Diego State University reported a record number of applications last week. The University of California reported a system-wide application record, but a breakdown by UC campus isn’t due until next month.
