Authorities have publicly identified a 61-year old man who was fatally struck by a vehicle last week while walking across a Miramar-area freeway connector after his car was rear-ended by a big rig.

Richard Rollo of San Diego was driving to the north on Interstate 805 when the tractor-trailer struck his Acura sedan from behind about noon Friday, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office.

Following the crash, the driver of the semi pulled over on the right- hand side of the freeway, and Rollo stopped nearby, just north of a transition ramp onto I-805 from state Route 52, the agency reported.

Rollo then got out of his car and began walking to the south toward the big rig, presumably to exchange insurance information with the trucker. As he was trying to cross the freeway connector, a pickup truck struck him, hurling him onto the interstate.

Rollo died at the scene of the accident.
