Authorities Tuesday publicly identified the 77-year-old man killed when the vintage military plane he was riding in crashed onto the grounds of a Fallbrook landscaping-supplies business.

Howard Rose of Chino was a passenger in the two-seat, single-engine aircraft, which went down about 1:30 p.m. Saturday near a greenhouse at Altman Plants, a wholesale nursery in the 2500 block of Olive Hill Road, shortly after taking off from nearby Fallbrook Airpark, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Rose died at the scene of the crash.

Paramedics took the pilot, whose name has not been released, to Palomar Medical Center in critical condition.
