One migrant drowned while another was rescued from the ocean on Tuesday morning at Border Field State Park.

San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded around 8 a.m. to reports of a woman stranded on fencing that extends into the ocean off Monument Road from the park at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Officials at the scene said a man accompanying the woman had fallen in and washed up on the beach. Lifeguards from both sides of the border attempted CPR, but the man was pronounced dead.

The woman was checked by paramedics and released into the custody of the Border Patrol.
