An early afternoon fire damaged a Rancho Bernardo apartment Monday, displacing a family of three and causing an estimated $200,000 worth of property losses.
The non-injury blaze erupted for unknown reasons shortly before 1:30 p.m. in a second-floor unit at a residential complex in the 17900 block of Caminito Pinero, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
It took crews about a half-hour to extinguish the flames.
The American Red Cross was called in to help the residents of the damaged apartment — two adults and a child —arrange for emergency shelter.
Investigators were working to determine what sparked the fire, which resulted in about $150,000 in damage to the structure and destroyed roughly $50,000 worth of contents, according to SDFRD public affairs.
