The driver of a vehicle was shot and killed by three U.S. Border Patrol agents at the end of a pursuit, sheriff’s officials said Saturday.
Just before 10:30 p.m. Friday, Border Patrol agents pursued a vehicle containing three adult men, according to Lt. Thomas Seiver of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit.
The pursuit ended at a gas station parking lot at State Route 94 and Buckman Springs Road not far from the border, Seiver said.
“A confrontation ensued, resulting in three agents discharging their firearms,” the lieutenant said. “The driver of the vehicle was struck by gunfire.”
An ambulance took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived, Seiver said.
The sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and was assigned to investigate the shooting.
