San Diego Police on Saturday were investigating separate shootings just blocks apart in the Mountain View area that left one man dead and four other people wounded, one critically.

The first incident was reported at 7:15 p.m. in the 3700 block of Ocean View Boulevard, said Officer John Buttle.

A 27-year-old man was shot three times and is facing life-threatening wounds, Buttle said. The victim was hit in the chest, resulting in a collapsed lung and possible paralysis. The other two bullets hit his legs.

The second incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. outside a market at 45th Street and Logan Avenue.

A 56-year-old man was hit in his upper body and died at the scene. The other victims were men aged 56 and 61 and a 45-year-old woman.

Lt. Andra Brown said all of the victims had been gathered in the parking lot of the market when they heard several rounds of gunfire and were struck.

Police did not immediately release identities or information about possible suspects in either shooting.

Anyone with information was urged to contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers.
