A persistent car fire in the 2400 block of Massachusetts Avenue in Lemon Grove took more than an hour to extinguish Monday.

Firefighters and San Diego County sheriff’s deputies, who first went to the scene in the early afternoon, soon tamed the fire in a vehicle that was parked with its back facing a carport, said Lt. Pat McEvoy of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

But then the carport ignited so the crews turned their attention to saving the house. And, just as they put out that fire, the vehicle reignited.

McEvoy said the car was fully engulfed in flames at one point.

No injuries were reported, and the total losses were unknown.
