A 68-year-old woman was fatally struck Saturday on a sidewalk in front of a bank branch in Mira Mesa.
The collision occurred about 2:50 p.m., as the woman walked north on the west sidewalk at 10800 Black Mountain Road.
As she crossed the Bank of America driveway, she was struck by a 2006 Ford F-250 driven by a 43-year-old man, said Officer J. Buttle, watch commander at the San Diego Police Department.
The woman was declared dead at the scene, but transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
NBC7 reported from the scene that the pickup driver had tried to flee but was detained before doing so.
An investigation was ongoing.
