A family of three was displaced Wednesday morning when a kitchen fire caused smoke damage throughout their Mira Mesa home, authorities said.

The non-injury blaze was reported shortly after 7:50 a.m. at a home on Paul Barwick Court, off Calle Cristobal, according to the San Diego Fire- Rescue Department.

When firefighters arrived, they spotted smoke coming from a second- story window at the two-story home, SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.

Crews doused the fire, which appeared to have started on a stove in the kitchen, and had the flames knocked down within 15 minutes, Munoz said.

The blaze was contained to the kitchen, but the house did suffer smoke damage, she said.

The American Red Cross was called in to help the displaced residents — two adults and one child — arrange for temporary lodging.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
