A 20-year-old woman suffered two fractured femurs and major head trauma when she was struck by an SUV in the Mira Mesa area, police said Tuesday.

The crash happened shortly after 6:40 p.m. Monday in the 9900 block of Camino Ruiz, near Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego police Sgt. Kevin Gibson said.

A 47-year-old woman driving a 2009 Lexus 350 SUV was heading northbound on Camino Ruiz when the 20-year-old woman walked into the right lane and was struck by the oncoming SUV, Gibson said.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of two fractured femurs and major head trauma, the sergeant said. An update on her condition was not immediately available.

The driver remained at the scene and intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, Gibson said.
