A 30-year-old woman suffered minor injuries Monday morning after she was dragged into a Mountain View cemetery while hanging onto a car driven by her ex-boyfriend.
The bizarre crash happened around 2 a.m. at the Mount Hope Cemetery near the intersection of 38th Street and Imperial Avenue, according to San Diego Police.
A verbal altercation between a woman and her ex-boyfriend escalated when the man tried to drive away in her car, 10News reported.
The woman and a male friend grabbed onto the car’s windows as the ex- boyfriend drove off, then crashed through a fence and destroyed at least three tombstones before coming to a stop, the news station reported. The ex-boyfriend then got out of the car and ran away.
Officers responded to the scene and found the woman lying in the cemetery next to an Infiniti sedan, Hawkins said.
She was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, he said. It was not immediately clear if her male friend was injured in the crash.
Officers searched the area for the Infiniti driver, but were not able to locate him.
The suspected driver was described as a 6-foot-1 black man with shoulder-length hair. He was last seen running through the cemetery wearing a Chargers jersey.
