A firefighter works to put out a house in fire in Lemon Grove while standing on the roof on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019.

A fire of unknown origin caused an estimated $350,000 worth of damage to a Lemon Grove home Wednesday, authorities reported.

The blaze in the 1700 block of Dupont Drive erupted shortly before 4 p.m., according to Heartland Fire & Rescue.

Two people inside the single-story house at the time were able to escape unharmed, said Sonny Saghera, a spokesman for the East County emergency services agency.

It took firefighters about 25 minutes to extinguish the flames. While dousing the blaze, the personnel rescued a cat stricken by apparent smoke inhalation inside the residence and were able to resuscitate it, Saghera said.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation in the late afternoon, Saghera said.
